As one of the leading food retailers in Australia, Coles experienced a dramatic change following its acquisition by Wesfarmers, one that extended further than its supermarkets but also in terms of the company’s culture. Siren Design was chosen to design the Coles Sydney Head Office, which was relocated from Chullora to North Ryde and covered approximately 4,000m2 over four floors.
- As the Coles Sydney Head Office was the main training facility for NSW staff, the reception area was designed to feel as though visitors had stepped into a quasi-supermarket space, even featuring a supermarket produce display unit. Collaboration zones with hot desks and soft seating were placed throughout the workspace in close proximity to the breakout area, so as to encourage staff to leave their desks and interact with staff or visitors from other departments. Not only does this allow for formal and informal meetings, it also challenges the more traditional way the staff have been working.
